Read moreThere is a version of business problem-solving that goes like this: something is not working, you identify what it is, you fix it, and it stays fixed. That version exists, but it is rarer than most people think. More often, the thing that is not working is pointing at something else, and fixing the surface problem just moves the pressure somewhere new.
Read more →A 90-minute strategy session can be one of the most useful things you do this month, or it can be a pleasant conversation that produces nothing actionable. The difference is almost entirely in the preparation. Not hours of preparation. Usually about 20 minutes of the right kind of thinking before you open the video call.

But there is a version of strategy work that happens better in writing, over a few weeks, with time to think between exchanges. We introduced the written strategy format in 2022 and it has become one of the most-requested things we offer.

A focused four-week engagement where we work through one real problem together. Not a framework, not a deck. A working plan you can act on the following Monday.
A monthly retainer for founders and team leads who want a thinking partner in their corner. We talk when it matters, not on a fixed schedule that nobody needs.
Mara Sollis founded FlowShiftWaveMind in 2019 after six years in strategy and operations at a Portland-based logistics firm. She holds an MBA from the University of Oregon, where she wrote her thesis on decision-making under ambiguity in small teams. Before consulting, she spent two years as an in-house strategist for a regional healthcare network, which taught her more about organisational inertia than any textbook. She is a slow reader who takes notes in the margins, a habit she has carried into client work. On most mornings she walks the same three-mile loop before opening her laptop, and she credits that walk with most of her better ideas.
